ABOUT THE PLACE

Real Surfing Paradise. Dominical is a small surfing village on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the south direction from San Jose. Dominical has an amazing beach break about 4 km long (mostly lefts). It’s not crowded, not expensive and very local with a cool surf base and an amazing surfing vibe. Lovely people respectful for the nature ad for each other. Pura Vida Mae.

INTO THE WILD

Wild animals and birds, parrots or toucans chirping around. Surf hostel is placed in the middle of the jungle crossed only by one main Pacific Road. Get ready for a lot of wild animal views and sounds. Surfing with pelicans, dolphins, turtles, sword fishes, manta rays happens quite often and you will find famous sloths on the top of the tree and iguanas under your door. There are also some crocodiles in the river but they do not enter the Ocean, at least not in the dry season (December-May). Good News? You will not find in Costa Rica a single shark. Sometimes jellyfish. Thankfully spiders and snakes are also hard to find. Mosquitos yes, pack a strong repellent. Nights on the beach with a bonfire are worth it !

SURF HOSTEL

Only 50m from the beach. Big spacious Central American open yard style gathers surfers from all over the world. Balconies over which we can dry our shorts, bikinis and towels have corridors leading to diverse rooms located on two different floors. All Girl on the Wave rooms have AC. In case if you prefer a bed in the room with FAN it is possible to change with advance. A big kitchen open 24h for the common use. A spacious open air living room with a good standard Wi-Fi. A stand for surf boards and outdoor shower just next to the little swimming pool. An amazing and very helpful crew at the reception anytime.

HOW ARE THE WAVES ?

Playa Dominical is definitely one of the best surf spots in the world It boasts consistent waves 95% of the year, with waves no smaller than waist high. Beautiful sandbars shape the waves like if it was a point break. Playa Dominical is known worldwide for its powerful waves. For goofy footers: there is plenty of lefts ! And in the bigger days if the size is out of your range there is also a little sister of Dominical (Domi) which is Playa Dominicalito (Lito) much more covered from the swell. Is it a natural wave pool? Yes it is. Are you a point break lover? You will also find some within a few kilometers/miles around.

Water is tropical warm, over 20 C. And there is almost no wind in the dry season (between December and May). January and February is the absolute top of the high season. But do not worry about crowds. The bay is large, 4km long and full of breaks with stunning jungle views. Get concerned about needing a hat on your head and some lycra to protect your body from the sun in the middle of the day. If you want to find more relief mornings and sunsets in the water are just unforgettable ! 5:30 AM first light. 7:30 PM last light. Different breaks for different skills. A natural gym to truly practise surfing all day long and everyday.

WHY DOMINICAL WAVERIDERS AS A SURFING PARTNER ON PLACE?

Because we work and surf together from 2019 and we love to work and surf together. The school is great experienced, highly professional and well equipped. The owner Jeanine is the best teacher ! She empowers people to surf and so on the local surf team she creates every time for Girl on the Wave. We can’t wait for another reunion with her and with Alex !

WHY VIDEO ANALYSIS?

Girl on the Wave surfing program is based on video analysis. We believe recording your surf performance gives us the unique opportunity to see and understand what is the most important to work on. Proper stand, motion skills, right technique. Once a mistake is seen can not be unseen and this observation makes the brain process faster and speak to our body straight. People say watching themselves surfing and seeing their mistakes caught red-handed was crutial, game-changing and main core for their proper transformation and progress. All Girl on the Wave coaching experience confirms video analysis boosts the whole learning process as anything else.

WHY YOGA?

Special yoga plan with the dedicated yoga master makes the surfing experience even more complex. Yoga helps to build up strength and flexibility of our body but also coordinates balance and relaxes muscles to get ready for the next surfing session. We are planning to feed and nourish Girl on the Wave surf camps in Costa Rica 2024 with an excellent yoga teacher who is into everyday practise as into stretching, breathing and relaxation techniques.
